Day 109

More painting!

This is the color we chose for the bedroom.  (okay, actually the second color.  Live and learn!)  It needs another coat, but I think the blue will be very relaxing.  That isn't beautiful hardwood trim, by the way.  Someone painted this brown, and it's going.  soon.

And here is the living room all completed!  We think that we may have gone with something a little darker had we known what this was going to look like, but three gallons of paint and hours of ceiling rolling later, we're going with it!   I think it looks nice.  We didn't cut in along the ceiling because we are going to put up crown molding, in case you were wondering why we left that garish line.  Why do more work than you have to?  That's what I always tell my boss.  (haha, just kidding!)  And speaking of work, what is there left to do?  We have to finish up the painting and trim, hang and paint the crown molding and chair rail, move the pendants in the kitchen, do a final coat of paint in the kitchen, hang the cabinets, hire the floor refinishers, then see if there is money left over for countertops.  See, almost there!

Day 107

We decided that we don't like the darker color, and decided to paint the bottom half the same color as the top half.  In this picture we have the bottom half primed and the upper half with the first coat.  We hope there will be enough going on in the room with the crown molding, chair rail, and all our gorgeous stuff, but if I decide not, I have a gallon of mocha colored paint in the wings.

Day 106

We painted the living room/dining room area today!

But we're not sure if we like the dark brown.  We're putting in a chair rail and crown molding, and I'm sure it will look different with furniture and things in front of it.  Does anyone have an opinion either way?  I want to think about it for a bit, but it would be easier to paint it before we put the molding up.

I don't think it looks as dark in this picture.  Maybe it will look lighter tomorrow in the light?  You can still see a little of the pink through the top color, as it is just the primer coat, and that might be throwing me off.

Day 105

This is why our late Christmas Eve gig was rescheduled and my Christmas morning gig was outright cancelled!

There is no driving taking place on that street!

This is the snow drift on our porch and around our car!

This is the snow drift in the backyard.

Meanwhile, we played house with the base cabinets and arranged them in the room.  The two cabinets hanging out in the middle of the room are going to be the island.  They aren't lined up where they will be because we don't want to block the vent .

Merry Christmas!

Day 102

Jason's been going to town putting these cabinets together!

It's a sea of cabinets!

He only has two left to put together!

Day 100

Wow, triple digits.  Jason had two symphony services plus one gig this morning, so there was no cabinet assembly today.  I was able to work a little though!

Today, I painted the hallway.  The color is called "Sand Trap."  I think it is very sophisticated.  Well, more sophisticated than sponge paint.

I also painted the entryway the same color.  It looks like I missed a spot.

Day 98

Cabinet making is going on in here!

Jason has already completed these 4!  If he keeps up this pace, this won't take long at all!  The manufacturer sent us a video for assembly, so we weren't completely in the dark as we had feared.

I love the color!  I think they will match the table and hutch nicely.  I cannot tell you how much I miss seeing my hutch!  I know we will be reunited soon...

Day 96

Our cabinets were delivered today!!!!!!!!

Here's the big delivery truck.  I'm standing inside for as long as possible because it's cold out there!

Adam and Lou so graciously came over and helped bring them inside!

I couldn't resist tearing inside one of them to check them out.  Now we have to figure out how to assemble them!  They didn't come with instructions...

Day 93

Hello Friends and family, we're still here!  Jason has been prepping the walls for painting.  That involves patching the walls with mud, letting it dry for a day, sanding it down, then repeat.  Jason wants it to be perfect and I'm sure it will be!

You may remember the gaping hole that used to be here in the last posting.  Jason patched the drywall himself and has been mudding and sanding this spot all week.  It was particularly difficult because the thickness of the drywall patch did not match the thickness of the original wall.  I think it looks great now!  The test will be when we paint it, however.

Speaking of painting, here is the first coat of paint for the office!  It is a big improvement over the yellow sponge painting wall treatment.  Green is a soothing color, and gender neutral if needed in the distant future... Don't leap to any ideas folks.

Day 86

We changed the lighting in the living room today.

First, Jason uninstalled the very ugly ceiling fan, that was strangely NOT centered with the room.  We figure that some previous owners had two recliners underneath this ceiling fan.  Well, no more!

Jason cuts holes for the recessed lighting.

Meanwhile, I rip off all of the "crown molding."  As you can see, it is really baseboard that someone decided could incorrectly pass as crown molding. We're eventually going to replace it with real crown molding.

Here, Jason is in the attic space doing the wiring for the recessed lighting.

Here it is all hooked up!  We still need to figure out how to install the recessed lighting "eyeballs".

Jason installed digital dimmers to control the sconces and the new recessed lighting.

Day 84

Jason nails in the last piece of flooring.

Flooring completed!  We did a little jig on it to test it out.

Day 83

More flooring progress!

Only a little left!

Tuesday, December 1, 2009

Day 81

More flooring progress!

Jason admires the strength of the floors.

Only a little bit in the dining room left!

Sunday, November 29, 2009

Day 79

Jason and I worked off and on all day and you'd think we would be farther...

Or at least WE thought we'd be farther after working as hard as we did today.

We didn't make Jason's end of the week goal, but progress is being made, and the end of flooring installation is in sight!

Saturday, November 28, 2009

Day 78

We worked together on the floor today.

Jason had to saw part of the plywood in the bathroom.

Then he had to chisel out the pieces.  See our beautiful pink bathtub in the background there?

We're almost done with the hallway!

Here it is from inside the hallway.

Day 77

Jason moved the gas line for the stove, and he even thought it was easy!  I'm so impressed!  He is getting to be so handy.

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

Day 75

Jason finished the hard part!  (I hope!)  He now has a straight line from the bedrooms, through the hallway, dining room, and all the way through the kitchen!

He was hoping to be done with the floor by the end of the week.  We shall see!

Day 74

We have flooring in the side entry!

Monday, November 23, 2009

Day 73

Jason repaired some of the subflooring in the side entry.

Saturday, November 21, 2009

Day 71

More floor progress!

Day 70

Floor progress!

Jason says he was in the groove.
